4 win Eddy Awards in September
NEWS EDDY: Liz Skalka wins for her efforts this political season. In addition to her ongoing coverage of local, state, and federal races, Liz orchestrated a different spin on The Blade’s Bellwether project. She decided to interview two people with different political views about the mid-term elections. The debate-style event was spirited and the writing reflected this. Liz also worked on her day off, which also was a Friday night, to handle a political piece.
VISUAL EDDY: Dave Zapotosky wins for his work on several breaking assignments. He went during early morning hours to the scene of a South Toledo apartment fire and quickly sent in photos for the site. Later that same day, he captured and sent very emotional shots of parents and students after a bomb threat and related dismissal at Woodward High School.
DESK EDDY WINNERS: Brian Buckey wins, in part, for all his help training others with sports agate. Brian was very helpful with this role and also for picking up weekly agate shifts himself. In addition to his normal duties, Brian helped on the desk after covering a UT game and he provided high school coverage on a Friday night.
Tony Raap is the other Desk Eddy winner for his command of copy during the month. Tony did a great job editing stories and juggling a high amount of material, especially when other key editors were missing. While he had help many nights, Tony was the one keeping control of copy flow so we wouldn’t get behind for deadline.
Each winner receives a $50 gas card and two tickets to Cedar Point.
Please submit your nominees for the October Eddy Awards to Kim Bates by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
