5 Eddy winners in February 2020
Steve Junga wins the Digital Eddy for his Clay and Waite rivalry piece, which was posted on the last day of the month — Leap Day — and so it still counts for February. This piece drove a high amount of weekend digital traffic. Also that same day, which was a Saturday, Steve covered three basketball games.
Nolan Rosenkrans is recognized with the Desk Eddy for adjusting his schedule after a nightsider called in sick and another was on vacation. He came in later that day, and that turned out to be the same day a Sylvania Township police officer fatally shot a robbery suspect. Nolan worked as both an editor and reporter that night, later went to the scene, and stayed over for hours to file a story.
Abe Kobylanski also wins the Desk Eddy. He caught something wrong in the lede of an obit. We said a subject was 82 but she was actually 81. Abe did the math and made the fix.
In addition to jumping on her new suburban coverage responsibilities, Kate Snyder has demonstrated her skill as a jack-of-all-trades GA reporter during the month of February. She wrote strong stories on the LMHA waitlist closure, the impact that the coronavirus outbreak has had on two locals, the police shooting in Sylvania Township, and a local man who survived the shooting at the Molson Coors facility in Milwaukee. For this, she wins a News Eddy.
Jordie Henry wins a Desk Eddy for spending lots of time over the past two years working with the U.S. Copyright Office on changes they implemented for accepting pages from The Blade. Just last week, Jordie received another affirmative response from the office, meaning The Blade will avoid countless hours meeting demands, if we could meet them at all. She was diligent in her approach to this.
