Markey captures 2 Ohio outdoor writers awards
Blade Outdoors Editor Matt Markey was recognized for his outstanding work as an outdoor media producer with two awards at the 65th annual meeting of the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers.
The awards were presented Sept. 14-17 in Gaylord, Mich.
Matt was awarded second place in the Best of Newspaper Open Division category for “The Outdoors Page”, a once-a-month full-page that appears in the Sunday Behind the News section of The Blade and takes an in-depth look at a wide range of outdoors, environmental, and wildlife-related topics.
Matt also was awarded third place in the Best of Newspaper/Fishing category for his story “Night Moves — Vampire Fishing Gets in the Blood,” which detailed fishing for huge brown trout on northern Michigan rivers in the pitch darkness of the post-midnight hours.
