About the Eddy Awards
“Eddys” (like the Grammys) are awarded each month, recognizing outstanding performance by members of the Editorial department for their work during the previous month.
The four categories are:
1. News Eddy: For an outstanding staff-produced story, tip, lede to a story, breaking Web story, source development, or story research. It can be awarded to reporters, editors, columnists, news assistants, clerks, librarians.
2. Desk Eddy: For outstanding page design, presentation, headline, best accuracy “save”, publishing breaking local or wire news, fact-checking etc. It can be awarded to editors, assistant editors, copy editors, librarians.
3. Visual Eddy: For outstanding photograph, illustration, Flash presentation for the Web, informational graphic. It can be awarded to an editor, artist, or photographer.
4. Digital Eddy: For outstanding digital presentation and digital journalism.
Awards include $50 gas cards and a listing of each month’s winners will be posted on Your SOURCE. Management personnel are not eligible.
Staffers may submit brief suggestions for “Eddy” winners to Kim Bates at [email protected] throughout the month, but no later than the last business day of the month. The decision of the judges — Kurt, Dave, and Kim — are final.
