Henry, Wadsworth, Rowland win April Eddys
We had quite an array of options for our April Eddy Awards, and our winners represent the wide variety of choices available for special recognition.
The News Eddy goes to Tom Henry for his excellent coverage of the Religion beat with varied and interesting stories, while still juggling other features and environmental stories for City Desk.
Jeremy Wadsworth in the recipient of the Desk Eddy for representing the photography department and The Blade in a very positive way. The circumstances are perhaps a bit unusual, but while at an assignment at a local cemetery, the 70-year-old gentleman Roberta Gedert was interviewing lost his footing and fell, almost hitting his head on a gravestone. He said that sometimes his knees give out, but was having a difficult time getting up. Jeremy put his arms around this gentleman and bear hugged him to his feet.
Once he felt like he had stable footing, Jeremy guided the man all the way across the cemetery and to a chain linked fence for additional support. From there, he guided him to his car and helped him get inside and get his bearings. The man was extremely grateful for Jeremy’s guidance and thanked him profusely. Roberta said she would never have been strong enough to help on her own, so she is also thankful for Jeremy and how he handled it professionally but also with compassion.
And the Visual Eddy goes to Kyle Rowland. After only two training sessions, Kyle came off like a Videolicious expert, producing a video every day while in Rome covering the UM football team. And each video was stronger than the last.
Each receives a $50 gas card, and our thanks. The May Eddy award nominations can be submitted at any time to Luann, but must be in by the end of the day, May 31.
