September Eddy Winners
Summer ended on a high, and hot, note when it comes to staff efforts.
The September News Eddy goes to David Patch for his suggestion on a feature about a deaf poker tournament at Hollywood Casino. He went to great lengths to work with often-hesitant casino leaders so we could gain photo and reporting access to this event. David offered to adjust his shift to spend Saturday, Sept. 16, at the casino. In that day, he turned around an A1 piece that had nice visuals and compelling writing.
Jeff Schmucker receives the Desk Eddy for his coverage of breaking news during his weekend shifts, including working all three weekend days on Labor Day weekend. He stayed late on two of the three nights. And he coordinated with Allison Reamer on an officer-related fatal shooting during a domestic violence call.
The Visual Eddy goes to photographer Andy Morrison. In addition to helping cover for Dave Zapotosky, Andy had a good month in the green goo. One photo in particular is the shot he captured of a fish on the river bank, gasping for air and covered in algae. This photo garnered a lot of social media attention.
David, Jeff and Andy each a $50 gas card.
Nominations for October Eddy awards can be made at any time during the month, but must be submitted to Luann no later than noon on Oct. 31. Happy Halloween.
