April Eddy Award winners
Starting this month, we have added another permanent award, the Digital Eddy.
Andy Morrison is the recipient of the new Digital Eddy. He has gone above and beyond in terms of fine-tuning and advancing his skills as a videographer. Andy has been a leader in the newsroom when it comes to large-scale video projects, and has been crucial in identifying story needs along the way. His MLK videos were top notch, preceded by excellent work on the Cook brothers and an MLK in Ada story. Andy is taking our videos to the next level as content that can stand alone.
Jon Chavez is awarded the News Eddy. He worked long days last Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday chasing the ProMedica/HCR news. His great work culminated in a Sunday A1 story, and he did it all while also pinning down other breaking business news about Starbucks moving downtown and Kroger delaying work at the Sisters of Notre Dame location.
Alicia Balog wins the Desk Eddy for doing a fantastic job in the midst of two separate major breaking stories. The first was the U.S. Bombs Syria night and the second was the death of Barbara Bush. Both required major repaginations of multiple pages late at night and on deadline. Alicia’s professionalism and quick design skills enabled the copy desk and the paper to get the best breaking news in for our readers.
Javonte Anderson takes the Visual Eddy for his work on the WTVG/Blade televised town hall about school violence. This was a different forum in which Javonte walked through the audience and helped people to present their questions. Also, he is recognized for his work on the MLK section, school suspensions story, and the Jones Leadership Academy chess team.
Each winner receives a $50 gas card and two movie passes.
May Eddy nominations are due to Kim Bates by 5 p.m. on May 31.
