February 2019 Eddy Award winners
DESK EDDY
With the month of February marking the change to two digital production days, Todd Wetzler wins for embracing the extra work involved in the production of the eBlade Xtra. It takes a considerable amount of time and forethought to prepare stories in advance to run in the Xtra.
Todd does it in a timely, professional fashion that helps designers get off to a good start on doing those pages. His help is invaluable.
NEWS EDDY
Jay Skebba has been doing a lot of great work with many recent stories. He wrote and filed a story from home close to midnight when news about the Rossford athletic director broke. He then followed that story with two strong pieces, digging into the AD’s background and his time in Athens.
Jay also wrote great stories about the Monroe County commissioner who crashed his car, the Toledo family sailing around the world, and the new whiskey bar coming to Maumee. These pieces were big digital hits.
DIGITAL EDDY
Roxanne Elias wins for video work. Her videos add a new dimension to our content and digital strategy. She’s enabled us to keep the Must See section of the new site fresh, and is always suggesting ways to improve our video presence.
Roxanne regularly goes live and also played a crucial role during the Feb. 28 election night.
VISUAL
Phil Kaplan wins for his mix of photography and videos. He recently transitioned over to the photo department full-time, where he has a mix of responsibilities.
Of particular note in February is a video Phil produced of lake ice from David Patch’s aerial photography.
All winners receive a $50 gas card.
Nominations for the March Eddy Awards are due to Kim Bates by 9 a.m. on Monday, April. 1.
