Meet intern Sammy Westfall

Sammy is an incoming junior at Yale University and a summer newsroom intern at The Blade.

At the university, she writes for the Yale Daily News as the cops and courts beat reporter. Throughout her time at the News, she has covered breaking crime stories, the creation of a citywide civilian review board to oversee police misconduct, and officer-involved shooting incidents in both the Yale and New Haven police departments.

Sammy comes from Manila, Philippines, where she spent 12 years of her life. She also has lived in Baku, Azerbaijan and Frankfurt, Germany. Last summer, Sammy reported with the Philippine Inquirer, a national newspaper in her home country.

She is excited to report for The Blade and to get to know Toledo.
