August 2019 Eddy Award winners
We had another hectic month and many thanks are due, once again, to all members of our production teams. We thank each of you for your extra contributions and help.
While so many could be recognized in August, we are honoring four people this month in three categories.
The month started out very busy with breaking news on a Sunday morning. Allison Dunn and Kaitlin Durbin receive the DIGITAL EDDY in part for their efforts in responding to the Dayton mass shootings. They were among teams that left early that morning, immediately hitting news conferences and finding victim stories.
Kaitlin also beat other media outlets with an interview with the shooter’s former girlfriend. In addition to this work, Allison and Kaitlin led the newsroom in August with the most digital page views for their stories.
For the DESK EDDY, Alicia Balog wins for her efforts on so many levels. She was often in charge of the news desk for part of August, during a time of heavy vacations and absences. She did this while also juggling additional duties and working overtime. Alicia handled all of this with great command, patience, calmness, and willingness to jump in and fix problems. We thank her for this amazing effort.
The NEWS EDDY goes to Brian Buckey, who’s been covering two beats — University of Toledo football and the Mud Hens. Brian has juggled big news on both beats. Some days, he’d hit a football game during the day and headed to a Mud Hens game at night. He also appeared on television and is one of the sports members who’s helped to pick up extra agate shifts this month.
Each winner will receive a $50 gas card. Deadline for the September Eddy Awards is 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30.
