September 2019 Eddy Award winners
News Eddy – Steve Junga wins in this category for all he does (especially at this time of the year) to make our preps coverage and namely high school football coverage top notch. He does The Blade poll, picks the games for the Friday Forecast, coordinates Spotlight Athletes, in addition to regular features, game coverage, weekly notebooks, and more.
Visual Eddy – This goes to Dave Zapotosky for hearing about a plane crash near Toledo Express Airport and heading to the scene. We had photos to our site quickly because of his efforts. Also during the month, Dave spent much of a day on scene at the Bedford schools campus waiting and photographing as an American alligator was captured.
Desk Eddy – Jeff Basting wins in this area. With two people away from his department, Jeff was the only visual artist on staff for nearly 10 days. He rose to the challenge of doing features work while also serving the needs of news and sports.
Digital Eddy – Andy Cole is recognized for taking it upon himself to come in earlier on a Saturday during his shift because he knew a first-time web editor was working the desk and three college football games were ending at the same time. Because of Andy’s actions, push alerts and story updates were made in a timely manner.
Each winner receives a $50 gas card. The deadline for the October Eddy Award nominations are due to Kim by end of business on Oct. 31.
