6 Eddy winners in October 2019
The Pizza Club members, Mary Bilyeu, Rob Garcia, and Phil Kaplan, along with the design experience of Joe Landsberger, are deserving of Eddy Award recognition for all their efforts with pizza over the past few months.
The work covers Visual, Digital, and News categories.
This crew set out, as they explained it to readers, to rank the city’s “swirling landscape of pizza” for the first time in 182 years.
And yes, the effort was indeed exhaustive. It contained judges’ comments after each pizza place. They included short descriptions of the judges. They produced a podcast. And the interactive pieces ran digitally and in print, followed by picks from our readers.
We thank you all for your originality here and for working together on such a fun and well-received project.
Olivia Herrera is recognized for the Desk Eddy for spotting a story circulating on social media about a man who was hospitalized – the area’s first – for vaping. Because of quickly notifying the city desk, Kate Snyder was able to rush in, get to the hospital, and break the story locally.
The resulting story was a fun read, too.
Rob, Mary, Phil, Joe, Olivia and Kate all win $50. The deadline for the November Eddy Awards is 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 2.
