November 2019 Eddy Award winners
We have five Eddy Award winners for the month of November.
The team of Alex Mester, Kaitlin Durbin, Rebecca Benson, and David Patch win the News Eddy for their efforts covering an overnight execution of search warrants for suspected dogfighting.
Kaitlin and Rebecca went to the scene in the middle of the night, while Alex Mester got up in the night and worked from her home. David Patch had the very excellent idea to fly the drone the next day over one of the homes in question. The resulting Page A1 photo showed signs of dogs and possible dogfighting in the backyard.
The fifth Eddy (the Desk Eddy) goes to Jackie Powell. Jackie found two key items in the coroner’s reports this month, both leading to stories. One was about a suspected drug runner who died after putting drugs into his body crevices. Another, which is still being developed for publication, looks at how an 8-year-old boy died locally at Sunshine Children’s Home after he was severely abused as an infant by his father.
Each winner will receive a $50 gas card.
Please submit to Kim your recommendations any time during the month for the December Eddy Awards, but no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 31.
