Meet Joe Hainthaler
Joe joins The Blade as Senior Editor, succeeding Greg Braknis in Editorial.
Joe started his daily newspaper career as an editorial-writing copy editor with the York Daily Record, in York, Pa., later covering Harrisburg for the paper as Statehouse Reporter.
As a copy editor at the Lancaster New Era, Joe wrote editorials and a weekly column called Lancaster County Lookout, which he took up again as county government reporter before being promoted to deputy opinion editor at LNP (the rebranded name of New Era owner Lancaster Newspapers).
Joe comes to The Blade directly from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where he was an editorial writer. He also has experience as an assistant news editor with the Reading Eagle and (briefly) Corporate Paralegal and Government Affairs representative for Auntie Anne’s Inc.
Joe grew up in northern New Jersey, so don’t be surprised if you see him rooting for the New York Mets, New York Giants, and whatever team happens to be playing the Philadelphia Eagles. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science at La Salle University in Philadelphia and, later, a paralegal certificate at Harrisburg Area Community College.
Joe enjoys cooking, traveling and reading a good mystery novel. He’s a big fan of the Jersey Shore, the place, NOT the MTV reality show. He and his wife, Mary Ann, are raising two teenage sons, and looking for a house in Oregon.
Joe’s email address is [email protected] and his work extension is 6404. Welcome to The Blade!
