5 win December Eddy Awards
As in past years, everyone did a lot of heavy lifting in December with our annual gift guides. We thank each of you for your contributions, but we want to especially recognize Sarah Baird, Jeff Basting, and Tom Fisher for their efforts here. They win in both the Visual and Digital categories of the December 2019 Eddy Awards.
Sarah, Jeff, and Tom not only were creative with their approaches to every page, but they kept things rolling as it related to deadlines and missing information.
On a related note, we will miss Jeff and Tom as skilled veterans at The Blade, but we’re thankful Sarah will continue to share her creativity with us.
In the Desk category, Jerry Petersen wins for his abilities as a headline writer, copy editor, page checker, and multidimensional employee. Jerry often helps Features and Editorial, in addition to writing some of the best headlines and cutbox headlines on the desk. He is among the best at page proofing and checking the eBlade and he does everything with a smile and a good attitude.
For the News Eddy, we recognize Nicki Gorny for a constant stream of interesting stories on the religion beat and with other topics. In December alone, she tackled the topic of Death Cafes that let participants explore end-of-life questions. She also spoke with some local Jewish leaders on the heels of an attack in New York, and that resulted in an A1 story.
Each winner receives a $50 gas card. Deadline for entries for the January 2020 Eddy Awards are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31.
