Eddy winners for 4th quarter 2020
We have many people to recognize for fine work in the months of October, November, and December. Each winner will receive a $50 gas card or another gift card of choice.
December, 2020
We thank Sarah Elms, Brooks Sutherland, Amy Voigt, Danielle Gamble, and Ellie Buerk for their investigative work on the Past Due series that ran over three Sundays in December. This was an effort produced with the Investigative Editing Corps, a first at The Blade.
The project, which focused on public housing and evictions in the Toledo area, already was recognized in the weekly IRE Local Matters newsletter. The series also has been entered into a handful of awards this month, including the Pulitzer Prize.
In addition to the Digital, Visual, and News Eddy wins for these five, we award a Desk Eddy to Alicia Balog, whose strong design eye was the force for putting this package together.
Also in December, we are recognizing two others for work outside of this investigation:
Matt Markey wins a News Eddy for his regular columns, other stories and ideas, veteran expertise, and also for a bright that ran just before Christmas about the simple yet meaningful gift of socks with a cause. Rona Proudfoot receives a Desk Eddy for filling in for others a great deal during the month of December, and other times. We appreciate Rona for being able to jump in and help in a variety of important ways.
October, November, 2020
We started thinking about gift guides in October. With Visual Eddy Awards, we recognize Joe Landsberger, Sarah Baird, and Kate Mitchell for handling the design duties of these pages. We changed up the presentation this year, to five items from 10, and Joe was the one to mock up a new half-page presentation for this.
In addition, we had some rain in the late fall, and Mark Zaborney, on a Saturday night, noticed some damage to bound Blade volumes in our library. He immediately signaled for help. During the political season that this was, Todd Wetzler is credited for expertly mining the wires in his role as full-time wire editor. Both Mark and Todd win Desk Eddy Awards.
