March and April Eddy Award winners
MARCH
- Mary Bilyeu and Sarah Baird are recognized with a Desk Eddy for their successful transition of the Food section from Wednesday to Sunday without missing a beat.
- Phil Kaplan receives the Visual Eddy for his work generating commemorative editions of Blade Sports pages for readers.
- Kate Snyder is recognized with the News Eddy for stories that ran the gamut from the opening of a new youth center and Maumee police use of body cams to the possible expansion of DORA. These types of stories are the bread and butter of a daily newspaper.
- Jackie Powell receives a Desk Eddy. From answering the phones and facilitating weekly payroll to helping organize contest entries and ensuring newsroom supplies, Jackie remains our go-to problem solver. If only she weren’t so reserved.
APRIL
- Digital/Desk/Visual Eddy: We’re rolling the three categories into one uber Eddy for the digital team, which worked long hours, often a body short, to keep the digital platforms humming in April. Kudos to Matt Swan, Taylor Freyer, Danielle Gamble, Mac Arnold, Andy Cole and super Sunday sub Jeff Schmucker.
- Roberta Redfern is recognized with the April News Eddy. Her work included insightful Arts stories on the history of the WPA in Toledo, the Schedel Garden’s acquisition of the Blair Lithophane Museum, and the Toledo Opera production based on the Valentine Theatre’s historic mural. Roberta also contributed a number of dailies, including the Solheim Cup concert announcement starring Gwen Stefani.
Each winner has received or will receive a $50 gift card.
