Blade newsroom wins 9 SPJ Awards
The Blade received five first and four second-place awards in the Society for Professional Journalists’ 2022 Ohio’s Best Journalism contest.
For the second year running, Rebecca Benson was cited as the state’s best photojournalist, taking first in Best of Show.
Other first place honors went to Nicki Gorny for best religion reporting; Joe Landsberger and Kaitlin Durbin in investigative reporting for Under Fire, which chronicled areas of the city most prone to gunfire and shootings; Kate Snyder for explanatory journalism for her urban sprawl series Room to Grow, and Heather Denniss in the headline writing category.
David Briggs won second place honors for column writing, while Jeremy Wadsworth placed second in the best of show photo category. Bill Piotrowski took second place honors for headline writing, and Luke Ramseth placed second statewide for business reporting.
The Long Island Press Club served as judges.
Winners will be celebrated at an Aug. 27 luncheon in Columbus. Please let us know if you would like to attend.
