Briggs, Powell, Fisher win November Eddys
Now that the election is behind us, we are trying to return to a more normal routine, and that means it’s time to announce November Eddy winners.
The News Eddy goes to David Briggs, in recognition of his enterprising columns that have frequently been making the move to the front page. Dave comes up with interesting local takes on current happenings, and writes in such a way that even those modestly interested in sports find his columns an interesting read. The most recent example was his Nov. 26 take on the Woody Hayes tale of pushing his car down I-75 in order to avoid buying gas in “that state up north.”
Jackie Powell is the worthy recipient of the Desk Eddy. Jackie has volunteered to take on the additional task of handing our new Century Mark submissions and typing them into the paper. Century Mark will recognize area residents who a celebrating 100+ birthdays. Jackie also works on a new Ourtowns calendar listing, which was her idea, based off the recent change with the former Monday Ourtowns pages. And she has absorbed a lot of daily log and other duties, such as daily budget printing, while covering for vacationing or recovering co-workers.
Tom Fisher is the Visual Eddy winner for his illustration on the Monday Nov. 28 health page of a bomb-sniffing plant. It’s creative, gorgeous and does a great job of both illustrating the interesting idea of the story and attracting the reader. In addition, Tom did a great job “freshening up” the holiday gift guides with more color and creative icons.
Each receives a $50 gas card. December nominations can be made at any time, but must be to Luann by Jan. 2, 2017.
