STYLE: Do not use ‘today’
We have made a style adjustment on days of the week. Use days of the week (Monday, Tuesday, etc.) in stories for days within seven days before or after the current day. Do NOT use today, tomorrow, yesterday, or last night.
Sports Style Snapshot
In sporting events, we should use numerals in most cases.
It’s Detroit Three, not Big Three
When referring to General Motors, Ford Motor and Chrysler as a group, please use Detroit Three. Not Big Three.
2 name changes
Changes involve the presidential library/museum in Fremont and the automotive supplier Dana.
Use naloxone, not NARCAN
Please use the generic drug name naloxone when writing about the medication to reverse opioid overdoses. Do not use "Narcan", because NARCAN® Nasal Spray is a registered trademark and we do not want to violate the trademark.
Style for Toledo Walleye, Oakland
Walleye is a plural noun.
Also, Oakland, the city of about 419,000 people on the west coast of the United States, stands alone in datelines. It does not need California.
Style for doctors, fort
Here are two style reminders. We have decided to reaffirm our previous, long-standing style: Dentists ARE NOT doctors. Also, do not abbreviate "Fort" for cities or for military installations.
Airport not in Swanton
Toledo Express Airport is located in Lucas County and it is NOT in the village of Swanton. So it does not take a dateline.
Style for ‘Pokemon Go’
The video game Pokemon Go is two words, with the "o" at the end lower case. Italics in body type, single quotes in headlines.
