Gruver named News Editor
We’re thrilled that Alicia Gruver, who marked her eighth year at The Blade this month, is assuming the role of News Editor this week.
Alicia is originally from Austintown, Ohio, and later attended Kent State University, where she graduated with a journalism degree in 2015. She was one of the last students in the newspaper track (it was updated to be multimedia and magazine concentration).
While at Kent State, Alicia served in several positions on the student newspaper, the Kent Stater, including assistant managing editor and copy desk chief.
Alicia received the Marge McNab Block Award, named in honor of the late wife of Paul Block, Jr., which is presented to the graduating Kent State senior woman in the journalism program with the highest GPA. Marge McNab Block received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Kent State in 1939.
In 2015, Alicia started her career at The Blade as a rimmer and became paginator and later copy desk chief.
Outside The Blade, Alicia enjoys spending time with her husband, Paul, and their little dog, Teddy. They enjoy going to the movies, attending trivia nights, playing board games, and visiting family in the Youngstown area.
