January 2018 Eddy Award winners
The News Eddy goes to Mark Reiter. Mark was the one who figured out where a plane had crashed after conflicting reports came across the newsroom scanner. The location was wrong, but Mark pushed and nailed this down. A local TV station reported the wrong crash site, but thanks to Mark we reported it accurately and had more details than other media accounts. Also, Mark played a big role in January with ECOT stories, politics, and also the Maumee Valley Country Day lawsuit story. We thank him for his help and institutional knowledge.
Steve Ungrey wins the Desk Eddy. Steve has taken on additional responsibilities in the sports department, including pitching in with compiling the boys and girls basketball stats. He also helps the desk rework stories when needed.
The Visual Eddy is awarded to Mark Monroe. Mark took video of Bowsher’s last-second shot that beat Rogers in a basketball game on Jan. 26. We appreciate his quick thinking here. The video has been popular on social media.
Mark, Steve and Mark each receive a $50 gas card and two Cinemark movie passes.
Nominations for the February Eddy Awards can be sent to Kim Bates any time, but no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
