July Eddy Awards with some twists
Often this staff does such great work, three Eddy Awards just don’t go far enough. And July was a perfect example of that.
Many of you (too many to mention here) went above and beyond the call — from helping co-workers, to filling multiple roles, to tracking down incredible stories. And while we can’t recognize all of you with a $50 gas card, we do want to publicly acknowledge the efforts of more than a dozen staff members. We won’t be able to do this every month, but July was extraordinary.
Here is what we came up with:
A News Eddy has been awarded to Tom Troy for his coverage at the Republican National Convention, and serving as night city editor and writing political stories during the Democratic National Convention. Kyle Rowland also receives a News Eddy for his “outside the RNC” coverage and his quick turnaround of the five “Ohio Hometowns Left Behind” series.
The Desk Eddy goes to Rona Proudfoot for excellence in pagination during hectic political conventions and a Donald Trump visit to Toledo. She was able to design and manage pages and multiple sidebars in a timely fashion that enabled the desk to make deadline nearly every night during an incredibly busy period.
The Visual Eddy was awarded to Andy Morrison for quick turnaround of two breaking news videos for the website; one on the search for Sierah Joughin in Fulton County and the other from an 11 p.m. news conference in Monroe County on the Chelsea Bruck murder investigation. He also did an excellent job covering for Dave Zapotosky during an extremely busy news week.
Each will receive a $50 gas card.
Now here is the twist. We are going to provide $15 Subway cards to the following staff members:
Vanessa McCray, Jordie Henry, Jennifer Feehan, Ryan Dunn, and Lauren Lindstrom for their work on the James Worley/Sierah Joughin abduction and murder;
Shannon Kolkedy and Alicia Balog for their positive desk impact, for taking on new assignments, and for assisting their co-workers when help was needed, and Amy Gostkowski, Tommy Gallagher, Jeff Svoboda and Andy Cole for their social media and video efforts, as well as frequent updates on the Sierah Joughin and Chelsea Bruck cases.
It was a hectic month, but you were there for each other and the readers, on all platforms. Thank you.
Nominations for August Eddys can be made at anytime during the month, but at due to Luann no later than noon on Aug. 31.
