June 2017 Eddy Winners
The June News Eddy award goes to Columbus Bureau Chief Jim Provance, who had a very full month writing stories about the state budget, among other major topics. The budget came down to a midnight vote on June 30 and he stayed with it. There were a multitude of other late budget meetings during the month, too.
Jim wrote about sensitive subjects as well, with abortion, Medicaid, and even execution among them. In one day, he produced four stories. Nearly every day in June, Jim produced an A1 story for The Blade. He’s also been shooting his own photos at rallies and news conference in Columbus.
Andy Cole has been instrumental with helping with coverage and changes on the Web desk, and for his efforts he takes home the Desk Eddy. Andy quickly volunteered to fill in for shifts made vacant for various reasons.
He’s also provided a critical eye toward what the web desk is trying to accomplish moving forward.
Photo journalist Amy Voigt receives the Visual Eddy for her great photo of a storm that produced 70+mph winds in the area on June 22, taken from the Martin Luther King Bridge, and for her emotional photos of the mother of a young woman who died of a heroin overdose.
Each receives a $50 gas card (or equivalent) for their efforts.
July Eddy nominations can be made at any time during the month, but must be to Luann by noon on Monday, July 31.
