March Eddy Award winners
We have two winners this month for the News Eddy.
Nolan Rosenkrans wins for his coverage of the Patrick Hickey situation. Nolan broke the story that charges against Mr. Hickey were forthcoming. We reported this first and before the charges were even filed. Mr. Hickey’s attorney called Nolan after Nolan walked down the street to his office and met with him, unannounced. This is just one example of Nolan’s fine coverage on this topic.
Lauren Lindstrom is recognized for her work on the James Worley trial in Wauseon. Not only did she take on a challenge off her usual beat, but her coverage has been excellent in that she handled a tough subject well and thoroughly in a sensitive environment. Lauren covered the trial for four weeks in Fulton County, many days leaving her home very early.
Amy Voigt is awarded the Visual Eddy for her photo of Caitlin Collins, who was the Washington Local schools student shown holding a sign “Sorry for the Inconvenience: we’re trying to change the world.” This was on the day students held rallies at local schools in conjunction with a national effort to bring attention to gun violence. We know many colleagues and readers have reached out to Amy to remark about this excellent photo.

Jerry Petersen wins the Desk Eddy for his work on the copy desk. He often handles copy for the A section, B section, and BIZ all by himself. He never fails to help out and often is available to work when someone else is sick or unavailable. Jerry’s can-do attitude is an asset to the desk and company. It also was Jerry’s idea to work on a map of Toledo neighborhoods so people on all desks can be uniform about what areas are called in Toledo. That map is up and being worked on in the newsroom.
Each winner receives a $50 gift card and two movie tickets. The nominations for the April Eddy Awards can be sent to Kim Bates anytime, but the deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday, April 30.
