Meet Shaelee Haaf
Shaelee is the newest member of The Blade’s digital team.
Born and raised in the snow-capped Rocky Mountains of Colorado, she loved exploring the outdoors through hiking, skiing, and other various activities at Girl Scout camps every year. Aside from all things outdoors, she also participated in track as a thrower and earned her First Degree Blackbelt in karate.
Shaelee had to say goodbye to the Centennial State when her family moved to Dayton six years ago. After finishing out two years of high school at Kettering Fairmont, she attended Bowling Green State University to major in multiplatform journalism. Shaelee also spent a semester at the University of Salzburg to minor in German. She graduated from BGSU last month.
While at college, she was involved with BG Falcon Media as a reporter, then worked her way up to city editor, and finally graduated as editor-in-chief of The BG News in May 2021. Her magnum opus as a student journalist was a five-month-long investigative story about the safety and lack of rental inspections of rental properties in Bowling Green.
Outside of work, she was a member of the Falconettes club dance team and performed during halftime at basketball games among other university events.
During her time in Salzburg, Shaelee rode planes, trains, and automobiles to check a few items off her travel bucket list. Along the way, she became close friends with a few people who she would often get into shenanigans with, which made for some fantastic memories and interesting journal entries.
When the occasional moment of free time drops by, the piano is the first thing to grab Shaelee’s attention. “The Piano Man” is her favorite song to play alongside several classical pieces. Although she’s still learning how to properly read music, she does enjoy reading comics and teen-summer-romance-murder-mystery-themed books.
After all the wild events of 2020, Shaelee is thrilled and ready to start her new career.
