Meet Steve Ungrey

Steve Ungrey
I am a 1992 graduate of Grand Valley State University with a major in journalism. I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and began my career at the Advance Newspapers weekly chain in the Grand Rapids area.
After a four-year stint with the Advance (1993-97), I moved over to the Grand Rapids Press, where I spent the next 15 years doing high school, small college and general assignment reporting. I covered West Michigan Whitecaps baseball, Grand Rapids Griffins hockey, Berlin stock-car racing, and national championships for Grand Valley in cross country and women’s soccer.
When the Press and seven other papers morphed into MLive Media Group in February 2012, I did occasional work on the copy desk and took scores and wrote stories for over 200 schools across Michigan.
When not in journalism mode I can often be found rooting on Detroit Tiger and St. Louis Cardinals baseball (especially the Cardinals!!!) and Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts football. I have been to 27 of the 30 major-league baseball stadiums and a few that have been torn down.
