Pearson, Firestone, McCray win ‘Fun’ poll
Political winners and losers are the story of any primary election day. But Tuesday’s Ohio primary meant three big winners in the Editorial Department, thanks to our fun, informal poll of who you thought would win. We asked three questions. Which presidential candidate will win the Ohio Republican primary and what percentage of the vote will they receive? Kasich won with 46.98 percent of the vote. The same was asked for the Democrat side of the aisle, which Hillary Clinton won, taking 56.48 percent of votes cast. The third question was would Issue 2, increasing the temporary income tax in Toledo in order to increase funds to fix city streets, pass or fail? It went down to defeat with 61.83 percent voting against the measure.
Forty-two newsroom employees participated in our poll. For the Republican side, Mike Pearson came closest to picking the winner, as he predicted John Kasich would take 48 percent of the vote. Dan Firestone successfully projected Hillary Clinton as the Ohio winner, at 56 percent and Vanessa McCray came the closest on Issue 2, predicting 62 percent would vote against the tax increase.
Each winner takes home lovely Blade merchandise, including a tote, a lunch bag, a tumbler, and a note pad and pencil. And they have bragging rights until the General Election.
Congrats and thanks for playing.
