Meet John Damschroder
My first job at age 9 was delivering The Blade in Gibsonburg.
My first professional job after graduating from Ohio University was with the Block Communications Inc.-owned TV station WLIO in Lima.
Since 2016, I have been a columnist for the Gannett Ohio Network, originating in the Fremont News-Messenger, where former Blade reporter David Yonke is the Editor. Working as a columnist was the door opener to the Editorial Writer position, which brings me to The Blade.
In addition to TV reporting and production duties in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Orlando, I was the Marketing Director in the 1990s for Ohio’s economic development agency during the Gov. George Voinovich administration.
My family owns Root’s Poultry in Fremont, where I worked with The Blade on a series of highly effective advertisements.
I have two adult sons both living on the west coast, along with a large extended family in northwest Ohio who read The Blade and are familiar with most bylines here, past, and present.
