Meet Laura Amezquita Cadavid
Laura Amezquita Cadavid is a rising junior at the University of Notre Dame. She resides in the (distant) city of Perrysburg, Ohio, but is originally from Medellín, Colombia. Laura graduated from Notre Dame Academy. Now at Notre Dame, she is majoring in political science with minors in impact consulting and the Gallivan Program of journalism ethics and democracy.
Within the world of political science, she is involved in various clubs, such as the Student Policy Network, where she gets to lead projects that present deliverables to think tanks and councils. Laura is heavily involved with the Saint Bahkita’s Vocational Training Center in Kalongo, Uganda. Last semester she had the privilege of traveling there to conduct market research.
Laura is also involved in various student media clubs. She is the news editor for Scholastic Magazine, where she works with a group of student writers for monthly publications. She is also involved in NDTV, the university TV station. Laura and her friends have their own radio station on WSND called “the Crashout Chronicles.”
Being from Colombia, Laura is passionate about Latin American politics and relations with the United States. She was able to spend a summer in Cusco, Peru, and further developed a passion for equal education opportunities.
Laura is known to promote community “at the price of inconvenience.” This is usually seen through her love for her friends, coffee, and music (playing and listening). She is tirelessly following the 419 Coffee Quest and spends more hours on Spotify than she would like to admit. Her dog Toto and her horse Celtic also play a large role in her life and her love for animals.
Laura hopes to pursue a career in a field that combines her various interests, whether it be law, nonprofit work, political journalism, or some other related profession.
