Markey, Wetzler, Lefkowitz win March Eddys
The winners of the March Eddy Awards:
The News Eddy goes to Matt Markey for his A1 offerings during the month, including the popular one that found a ‘Toledo’ Walleye swimming 300 miles away, and Penta County students raising hellbenders.
Todd Wetzler takes home the Desk Eddy for his heroic efforts in helping the copy desk rip up and rebuild three pages between editions when big news was taking place. His ability to quickly edit stories and rewrite headlines on tight deadlines made the revamp a huge success and provided a better end product for readers. Not only is Todd a great wire editor and headline writer, he has keenly altered his workflow on several occasions to adapt to late changes.
And the March Visual Eddy goes to Andy Lefkowitz for his implementation of promos that show our early front pages each evening via social media. He is also trying to attract more attention to individual reporters and their work. He is doing a great job bringing new ideas and social media ideas to our paper and the Web.
Each receives a $50 gas card. Nominations for the April Eddy awards can be made at any time during the month, but must be to Luann by noon Monday, May 2.
