February Eddy winners
It may be the shortest month, but the list or staff work worthy of Eddy recognition in February was quite long.
Vanessa McCray and Matt Markey were named News Eddy winners for the month.
Vanessa is being recognized for her strong and compelling writing, research and reporting for the multi-day Southern Survival series, as well as writing a live MLK Day event while reporting in Atlanta.
Matt wins for two strong A1 stories that attracted a lot of reader interest – a poaching ring brought to justice, under the code name Operation North Coast, and an update on the Asian carp issue as it relates to the Great Lakes.
In a somewhat unusual twist, Jennifer Feehan wins the Desk Eddy.
Jennifer supported and collaborated with Matt’s very involved story on a poacher being sent to prison.
While she was dealing with several stories on her court beat, Jennifer made herself available no less than a half dozen times to advise on legal terminology, the proper phrasing for different pleas and sentences, and what was essential to include in a story of that nature.
Jennifer even copy-read the story before publication and made some necessary adjustments. Matt appreciated Jennifer’s assistance, and felt the story, and the newspaper, were better for her efforts.
Andy Morrison wins the Visual Eddy for his awesome boxing photos of the Robert Easter Jr. boxing match at the Huntington Center.
The photos captured the love affair between Easter and the city of Toledo. And Andy also captured the raw edge of boxing.
Each winner receives a $50 gas card.
Nominations for March Eddys are due to Luann by close-of-business March 31. Winners will be announced on April 3.
