Blade captures 2nd place in Ohio APME Awards, wins 20 honors
COLUMBUS — The Blade won 20 awards, including six first place honors, Tuesday in the annual (2020) Ohio Associated Press Media Editors newspaper competition.
Competing in the top division of newspapers in the state of Ohio, The Blade finished second place in the award for General Excellence, third in Best Daily Sports Section, second in Best News Coverage, and second for Best Digital Presence.
The Blade swept the category of Best Feature Photo, garnering first, second, and third place awards.
The Blade’s Jon Chavez won Best Business Writer for his work judges said is “especially impressive for its breadth and depth.” For editorials that “stood out for their conversational tone,” Wynne Everett was named Best Editorial Writer, while David Briggs, who judges said “brings a strong voice and terrific writing,” to his columns, won Best Sports Columnist.
Jeremy Wadsworth, who judges said had an “exceptional portfolio,” won Best Photographer and Best Feature Photo, while Joe Landsberger’s “striking presentation” that “is compelling and informative,” won him first place in the Best Illustration or Informational Graphic.
